Glam Rock Costume Designs for Adam Lambert The driving force behind this set was an idea that started to form in my head for the design of the first costume in this set.  It was a creative manifestation of the energy high that I needed to discharge from flailing over Adam Lambert being amazing on American Idol.  I worked on a sketch of the design and then I fleshed it out.  I decided the only right way to handle the situation was to create a complete "album" of designs.  I worked at a manic pace from the end of May 2009 for nearly 100 hours until July 25th, while I was slowly getting sicker with a large cyst that was removed via emergency surgery just a few days after I completed this set.  I made 9, and then did a direct portrait for the cover of the black foamboard folio.  The costume drawings all are from 9 x 12" to about 9 x 14" on sketch pad drawing paper.  The cover portrait is on cold press Arches watercolor paper and is 9.75 x 7.5".  These are all drawn in linear style graphite and then colored with watercolor, and where applicable, gold and silver acrylic paint.  The faces are all drawn from reference photos, but the bodies are a combination of reference and artifice: #1 body entirely freehand, #2 body used some reference for the arm positioning, #3 body used a reference for the right hand and legs only, figured out left arm in the mirror, #4 the basic body alignment was copied from a WLL pose on AI8, the arms were fabricated because I moved them around, #5 is all made up except for the right hand/arm, #6 body is all made up save that I copied the right hand from the left hand of someone else's drawing from a photo, #7 legs had a reference, #8 body was entirely ficticious, and #9 torso was copied from young hollywood awards photos, legs and feet loosely referenced .  Gifted.

I had been tweeting twitpics of these to Adam, and on August 19th 2009, the day I returned to work after recovering from surgery, he tweeted the response at left.  I know for a fact he saw at least three of the pictures, but I have no guarantee he saw all of them. :D
