063:  Catwoman

2006, Barbie as Michelle Pfeiffer's character in "Batman Returns."This doll was one I had been trying to make/wanting to make since about 1993 (when I was in 5th grade).  My dream was finally realized in 2006 with this piece. This is a hodge-podge doll. The head was from a 1989 Barbie with the 1976 superstar headmold, and the body was from a princess Barbie doll from 2005 with the 2001 "belly button" body. The boots are factory Mattel boots. The doll was completely stripped down, hair and face paint completely removed. I painted her face to look as much like Michelle Pfeiffer as possible with Liquitex acrylics and polymer varnish, and she actually HAS been rerooted with Ash Blond Katsilk saran doll hair from restoredoll.com. Although, you wouldn't know it because her outfit including full head mask is completely non-removable.The outfit was painstakingly made out of black PVC-type "cloth" using over a dozen production photos from the movie, on Topps cards that I've had since 5th grade. The slices in the outfit, the length and shape of the pieces, the intricate corset, and of course the white stitching were done with as much trueness to the movie costume as I was able to produce. She has 1/2 inch sequin pins for claws, and a handsewn cat-O-nine tails whip. This is one of 2 nearly identical Catwoman dolls that I made, this one that I made for public consumption I tried to sell but later had to pawn.  The other is in my personal collection.
